The PTs are approachable and friendly and will help you out if need be. Sometimes equipment can be in use but if you have a good workout programme for yourself there will always be something much the same that can suffice. Evenings are too busy where friend groups huddle round machines but mornings are quieter if you prefer. At present puregym is getting an upgrade but can still get a workout in. Looking forward to seeing it complete 😀 Hoping a good amount of equipment for strength training will still be available. I can only keep dreaming about one of those hip thrust machines! 🙏 | 4 |

The gym is already over crowded and I don't think a bit of extra equipment will help. | I live local to puregym and have been going for nearly 3 years now. The PTs are approachable and friendly and will help you out if need be. Sometimes equipment can be in use but if you have a good workout programme for yourself there will always be something much the same that can suffice. Evenings are too busy where friend groups huddle round machines but mornings are quieter if you prefer. At present puregym is getting an upgrade but can still get a workout in. Looking forward to seeing it complete 😀 Hoping a good amount of equipment for strength training will still be available. I can only keep dreaming about one of those hip thrust machines! 🙏 |

| After being at this gym for over a year I'm finally leaving. I'm gutted because while most of the staff and PTs are lovely, I can't stand the overcrowded gym at all hours of the day, and the lack of equipment in relation to this. St James PureGym is going to be closing in June and even with the new upgrade to Eldon, I just can't see how it's going to work ! The gym is already over crowded and I don't think a bit of extra equipment will help. Not to mention it is so so so hot in there at all times of the year (I can't understand why you need heating in a gym when you're supposed to be busting a sweat!) it becomes unbearable in the summer and it's impossible to complete a workout.\nThe lack of Aircon and st James gym closing is the reason I've left - it will be ridiculously overcrowded |

| I live local to puregym and have been going for nearly 3 years now. The PTs are approachable and friendly and will help you out if need be. Sometimes equipment can be in use but if you have a good workout programme for yourself there will always be something much the same that can suffice. Evenings are too busy where friend groups huddle round machines but mornings are quieter if you prefer. At present puregym is getting an upgrade but can still get a workout in. Looking forward to seeing it complete 😀 Hoping a good amount of equipment for strength training will still be available. Cleaners don’t seem to clean the machine, all the Covid sanitisation stations have been removed like they didn’t learn anything from that. Went there after Christmas and got sick straight away. Cleaners don’t seem to clean the machine, all the Covid sanitisation stations have been removed like they didn’t learn anything from that. Went there after Christmas and got sick straight away. Loads of times no hand wash in the toilet. No tissue in the tissue dispensers on the wall. Gym closes randomly without prior notice except a piece of paper saying closed today sorry for the inconvenience. Always a hotbed for germs. No proper aircon. Staff seem ignorant at times, not all just some. Abit of a shame really. Do better |

I'm gutted because while most of the staff and PTs are lovely, I can't stand the overcrowded gym at all hours of the day, and the lack of equipment in relation to this. St James PureGym is going to be closing in June and even with the new upgrade to Eldon, I just can't see how it's going to work ! The gym is already over crowded and I don't think a bit of extra equipment will help. | I've been going there now since I moved to Thorpe Park 21 months ago. Facilities are OK. Sometimes not able to get on the equipment I want to, as too busy at times, but the staff have never spoken to me including the manager. Tried to make eye contact and they just look the other way. Very unfriendly. They'll happily talk to anyone who is in their click. I went to a Leeds Council gym before that for years and always had a chat or bit of banter. Not saying I want to stand having a conversation forever, but by now they should at least be known my name or at least acknowledge me with a hi.\nSeriously. They really have no customer interaction and this needs addressing. I want to feel welcomed as a paying customer. Upper management really do need to address this. I always get this impression that they just really don't want to be there and just go through the motions. Please resolve this culture. | It was some time ago when I was using this gym, but I remember how annoying was broken one of two lifts (for the nearly 1 year...) and how long I needed to wait to just start exercises. | Staff are aggressive and violent, I thought I was in a safe place protected by PureGym staff but no that is not the case. PureGym staff are the ones that will charge up to you and square up to your face wanting to fight you. Avoid this gym at all costs as you won’t be protected by their staff nor their complaints procedure. If you get into their bad books they will not think twice before they attack you or threaten you with violence. This is exactly what happened to me on Tuesday 30/04/24 which is 3 days ago and since then management team say they are still investigating. I emailed management team, Ray Marshall today asking for an update, I got one liner back saying they are looking into it. Due to uncertainty of what will happen, I have to question PureGym if I am safe to train over the weekend but I have been ignored. It’s unbelievable how such a big company like PureGym deals with serious complaints of this nature and shows it’s customers no empathy or lack of customer care and there seems to be no urgency in finding a solution. I mentioned about hygiene on day one but this has been ignored as there is one spray and tissue in the cycle room. I did see an attempt to put some bins and sprays near the weight section but not clearly sighted or refilled. Toilets and showers left in a state; we suggested cleaning to be periodically. Such a shame for a new gym but 1st impressions count. Add a latch on showers? Anyone could open it while your in there? The changing rooms look like they have keypad access so shouldn't they be used? The saying is 'you get what you paid for' but after it goes up in a year, is it really worth it? Time will tell.\n\nSuch a poor response from them and the fact they can't pass on the feedback. There is never toilet paper and you always have to ask to some of the rudest staff I have seen at pure gym. One day they overfload and the day after they are locked. Yesterday the room was locked altogether with no notice. I have travelled to get there to find out that the locker room was inaccessible and we should use the tiny lockers on the groundfloor. As the gym was massively overcrowded by teenages hoarding multiple machines and the lockers were all taken, me and 6 more people were forced to leave.\nI feel I should be refunded for my membership. The cycle class is in the middle of the gym downstairs with no door or ceiling and the instructor had a mic on shouting with the music which was so unnecessary. You couldn't hear your own music on headphones in the gym. I have to avoid going when cycle class is on for sure but would like for this to be addressed. Deafening.\n\nNot enough treadmills - regularly have to wait to use one and all oddly positioned. Ones upstairs you will have a huge tube light in your face. I feel like there is way to much weight equipment in this gym and not enough of anything else.\n\nEvening classes are super hard to get onto I have found. You can join a waitlist but this means you have to show up for the class even though you might not get in depending on no shows. Not a good system. Plus you would have to pay an extra £2 for Yoga!\n\nHad learn to lift with Dom - he was very knowledgeable and very friendly and I learnt a lot.\n\nLikely won't continue at this gym but will see if improvements are made. Some equipment is right by the entrance which is constantly in use so the wind and cold hit you if you're on anything near the door. | |
| I would give 4 stars if it weren't for the freezing temperatures inside in the fall/winter. The problem seems to have been passed on to corporate management and is no longer with local management (I don't blame them), but that doesn't make it any more pleasant for members. Most people wear hoodies, some even wear winter jackets when they work out. I'll be happy to change my rating when the problem is fixed.\n\nOther than that:\n\n+ it's cheap\n+ there's a solid selection of equipment (lots of cardio)\n+ open 24/7\n+ the app is very handy as it shows you how many people are in the gym at any given time and how many are expected\n\n- machines are frequently out of order (sometimes this is fixed in a few days, sometimes not for a few weeks) and some treadmills don't work properly (buttons don't respond, constant emergency stop alarm - which isn't a big problem as you can always find a free treadmill that works even at peak times)\n- it can get very busy, even early in the morning at 6.30am\n- some members leave their empty cans/bottles and tissues on the floor or in the bottle holder; the gym's cleaned frequently but you'll still see it from time to time | |

| No staff in sight. In July 2019 I was left alone and unattended with very large weights. I did a kettle bell swing with a 20kg weight and it has ruined my back leaving me with life changing injuries. L5/S1 herniated disc. I was unable to walk for 8 weeks. I get flare ups and it has greatly reduced my quality of life. Pure Gym leave you alone with heavy equipment unsupervised and vulnerable to serious life changing injuries | |

| RUDE STAFF. Arrived at 6.30am with some friends to use three off the exercise bikes (in the open workout area). At 7.00 a staff member came over and rudely told us those bikes were for her class at 7 am every Thursday (as if we were supposed to know!) and that we couldn't use them. If she'd used a single please or thank you I would not have minded but instead I have cancelled my membership and won't be coming back.\n\nManagement need to train staff better (common theme in the reviews that the staff are rude). | |
